A Family of Singers

I am sure most of us are familiar with the renown Von Trapp Family Singers, if only from Sound of Music.

Did you know there was a family of singers in the Bible?

I stumbled upon the verse just now in fact. (I have just picked up my bible and it opened to the verse.) I love finding 'random' facts in the Bible, especially when I am not looking. :) I find it so interesting that God gives us of unique details of this man and his family.

"...And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
All these were under the hands of their father for song
in the House of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps,
for the service of the house of God..." 1 Chron. 25:5-6

*****

One of these days and it won't be long,
I'll rejoin them in a song.
I'm gonna join the family circle at the Throne.
Oh, no the circle won't be broken.
By and by, Lord, by and by.

Daddy sang bass,
Mama sang tenor.
Me and little brother would join right in there.
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.

~As a golden-hearted rose~

"Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one’s life with pomp and blare,
like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one’s side
like an old friend through quiet ways;perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose,
until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm
and the music; perhaps . . . perhaps . . . love unfolded naturally out of
a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath."

A Sweet Sound to Your Ear

I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice
To worship you, Oh my soul rejoice!
Take joy, my King, in what you hear
May it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear

I love you, Lord, and I lift my hands
To worship you as my soul demands
Take joy, my King, in what you see
May I be a sweet, sweet child on your knee

I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice
To worship you, Oh my soul rejoice!
Take joy, my King, in what you hear
Make it a sweet, sweet sound in your ear

Make it a sweet, sweet sound in your ear

The Lord has Promised

Have you ever had one of those horrible days (weeks) in which everything seems to go wrong? Or perhaps the kids are mis-behaving, maybe there is a rift between you and your spouse, or maybe your best friend is mad at you. Well, it does happen to the best of us (and the worse of us for that matter). In times like these, my heart usually sits in my throat.

Sometimes, I leave my heart sitting there, and continue to feel like throwing up or choking. This choking nausea tends to lead swiftly to self pity. By the time self pity engulfs the soul, it's a little too late to take a deep breath and swallow.

Yet, I am learning more and more that it does not have to be this way. It sounds so cliche to say 'Turn to the promises of God." So, instead I'll say it this way. God had promised. Do we really believe this?

We need to trust God for the little things.

The promises of God. God has promised. The Lord has promised.

the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised (Ex 12:25)

Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned. (Num 14:40)

the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, (Deut 12:19)

the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him. (Deut 10:9)

the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised (Deut 26:18)

LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you. (Josh 23:10)

And being fully persuaded that,
what he had promised,
he was able also to perform.
Romans 4:21

Do we turn to God? He has promised to be there.

A Rest for the People of God

I sure the majority of people enjoy a good vacation. The place and type of vacation varies, naturally, but we look forward to vacations nonetheless. Personally, I enjoy a quiet vacation. I love being with people, I love visiting quiet shops, and I do love to try new adventures. I am not really keen on amusement parks or noise.

For me a vacation is the time I can escape, spend some time with God, and think. Everytime, I think of taking a vacation, I am reminded of the verse in Hebrews "there remaineth a rest for the people of God." I know this verse is usually thought of in terms of Heaven, but I thank God for the rest, each opportunity we have for a vacation, whether a day, week, month, or more.

God gives us everything we have, "every good gift and every perfect gift, comes down from the Father of lights". How much more we should credit Him.
